THREE officers have been praised for their swift actions in helping to save the life of a vulnerable missing woman.

Cleveland Police's Sergeant John Stephenson, PC David French and PC Jamie Richards from Incident Resolution Team (IRT) south, were called to the woman’s aid after a call to police on Thursday, November 4.

Sergeant Stephenson took immediate action to locate the vulnerable woman, who was found at Huntcliffe in Saltburn in dangerous, wet and windy conditions.

PC Richards and PC French began to negotiate with the woman, and with support from Sergeant Stephenson, they remained with her for over an hour at the cliff calmly talking and listening to her.

The woman was eventually taken to a place of safety and was given medical assistance.

The officers received a certificate of appreciation for their part in helping the woman on behalf of the Force.

Chief Inspector Daryll Tomlinson said: “These officers did a great job of locating the missing vulnerable woman quickly, which is obviously crucial, and then they spent over an hour with her, listening and talking to her calmly.

"Assisted by the coastguard they gained the trust and confidence of the woman who then came to safety. They potentially saved the woman’s life and so rightly they deserve this recognition."
