ICE skating by the sea, a Victorian Christmas an alternative celebration with a gothic twist are all on offer on the North Yorkshire coast.
Both Scarborough and Whitby open ice rinks on December 3 and November 26 respectively which run until January 2.

The rinks boast dedicated facilities for visitors with mobility issues, including wheelchair users.
Meanwhile, celebrate the gothic side of Christmas in Whitby when the town hosts its Krampus Run from December 3 to 5.
This features a costumed street parade commemorating Krampus, Saint Nicholas’ more sinister opposite number, and Whitby’s ‘otherworldly’ heritage and folklore.
As the world-famous birthplace of Dracula, it is fitting that Whitby is the first place to bring Krampus to the UK.
Over the same weekend, Robin Hood’s Bay hosts a Victorian Weekend with traditional favourites including carol singing in the dock, traditional beach games, welly wanging and the duck race.
These are just some of the packed programme of events and Janet Deacon, tourism and culture manager at Discover Yorkshire Coast explains.
“The Yorkshire coast is planning a showstopper of a Christmas, aiming to entertain families this festive season with a sack-full of surprises that not even Santa’s elves could dream up.

"There’s ice-skating by the seaside for the first time; the infamous ‘bad santa’ Krampus Run, perfect for naughty children, the magical Fisherman’s Christmas Tree, and Victorian welly-wanging in a Christmas smugglers’ den.
"And if that wasn’t enough, Santa shuns the sleigh and rides the waves rather than the reindeer, as he makes his grand entrance by boat,”
