STORM Arwen is set to batter much of the North East and North Yorkshire after the Met Office have predicted an amber warning and "danger to life."

The warning is currently in place from tomorrow at 3pm to Saturday at 9am and could see “high winds” cause travel disruption and damage.

Flying debris has been reported by the weather forecaster as likely which they say “could lead to injuries or danger to life.”

Damage to trees, temporary structures and buildings such as tiles blown from roofs has also been predicted.

The Met Office have said that there is also a good chance that power cuts may occur with the potential to affect other services such as mobile phone coverage.

Injuries and danger to life is also likely due to large waves and beach material being thrown into coastal roads, sea fronts and properties.

Here’s the full list of what to expect according to the Met Office:

  • Flying debris is likely and could lead to Injuries or danger to life
  • Probably damage to trees, temporary structures and buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs
  • Longer journey times and cancellations likely, as road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected
  • Some roads and bridges likely to close
  • There is a good chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
  • Injuries and danger to life is likely from large waves and beach material being thrown onto coastal roads, sea fronts and properties

The news comes after dates were set for snow and ice to hit the region as colder spells are becoming more likely.

Looking at the Met Office long-range forecast between Thursday December 7 and Tuesday December 21, they have warned that there is a “risk of snow and ice in the North East.”

However, WXCharts have predicted snow as early as this weekend starting on November 28.

The weather-forecaster has predicted up to 5cm of snow between Sunday November 28 and Monday November 30.

More snow is predicted by the forecaster for early next month as well with much of the North-East and North Yorkshire being covered.
