NORTH Yorkshire police have launched an investigation after a 13-year-old girl was sexually assaulted on a busy road in York city centre.

Police say the incident occurred at the start of September 2021 on Poppleton Road in York and it is believed to have occurred either on Thursday September 9 or Thursday September 16 between 6pm and 8pm.

A male approached a lone 13-year-old female trying to talk to her and asking her to come back to his house.

The female tried to walk away but he grabbed hold of her on the arm and the chest after which the girl ran away towards a bus stop.

The incident occurred just pas The Fox on Holgate Road as it leads on to Poppleton Road.

Officers say the incident was only recently reported to police and the mail has been described as white with brown hair and a stubbly beard.

He had a beanie type hat on and was wearing a black ripped coat with writing on, adidas tracksuit bottoms, possibly with a paint stain on them, and old shoes.

A spokesperson for the force said: “If you have any information in relation to this incident, please call North Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident 12210225858.
