TEACHING facilities at a regional college will be transformed thanks to a share of an £83m Government fund.

Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College in Darlington is one of 39 sixth forms and colleges to benefit from the new Post-16 Capacity Fund.

Demand is expected to increase for post-16 places in the coming years, and the new funding is expected to enable access to a range of education options, including A levels, T Levels, apprenticeships or traineeships .

Tim Fisher, Principal of Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College said: “This is great news for young people in Darlington and beyond.

“The funding we have been awarded will enable us to create excellent facilities at the college and fantastic futures for our students.”

Darlington’s MP Peter Gibson added: “I’m delighted to see Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College receive further funding which allow them to prepare for the anticipated increase in young people entering into further education.

“This investment will boost capacity so we can make sure there is a place for every 16 to 19-year-old.”
