A 32-year-old man, the victim of the assault, from the Thirsk area, remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition, according to police.
Officers came across the man, laid on the pavement with serious head injuries. He was airlifted to hospital.
Police made the arrest this afternoon (Monday November 8) and the man is being held in custody for questioning.
