A fireworks event in Stanley was postponed last night.
In a statement the organisers said: "We have had to make the difficult decision to postpone tonight’s fireworks event at Stanley due to safety concerns with the current high winds on the site and a yellow weather warning for wind tonight.
"Our main concern is the safety of the public attending and with the current weather situation on the site it would not be safe to go ahead.
"We are doing everything we can to ensure we can host a safe event for everyone tomorrow as we know how excited everyone was for the event!"
The Stanley events team, however, posted today that the event could go ahead tonight.
They said: "Thanks everyone for your patience yesterday, it’s so important we make sure everyone attending not only has a good time but is kept safe.
"The event will go ahead today with the same timings, site open from 5pm with funfair, entertainment, food and licensed bar. We’ve some great singers!
"As long as the wind direction doesn’t change unexpectedly and the speed/gusts don’t increase we expect to set the fireworks off from 7pm.
"As things sometimes change quickly please bare with us as we work as hard as we possibly can do deliver our towns display. We will always prioritise everyone’s safety but rest assured we are doing everything we can to make it happen."
Events went ahead on Friday in Hardwick and Chilton.
