A BANNED driver who failed to stop for police when illegally riding an e-scooter has been jailed for a string of offences.

Jamie Orchard was already under a suspended sentence imposed in May for drug-driving when he was seen riding an e-scooter on Bullamoor Road in Northallerton on October 13.

The 34-year-old failed to stop for the officer and was later charged with driving a vehicle without insurance and driving while disqualified.

He was also found to be carrying a small bag of cannabis on October 14.

His case went before North Yorkshire Magistrates sitting at York on Tuesday, November 2, where he pleaded guilty to driving whilst disqualified, driving without insurance, failing to stop for a police officer and possession of a Class B drug.

He admitted the new offences meant he had breached the conditions of the suspended sentence imposed on May 17 this year.

Orchard was also charged under the contempt of court act after he ‘wilfully insulted’ the courts, but his apology was accepted by magistrates.

He was sent to prison for six weeks, with magistrates stating that his record of previous offending was an aggravating feature and because the offences were committed during the operational period of a suspended sentence.

Orchard, of High Street, Northallerton, was also ordered to pay £128 in court charges and was banned from driving for 53 months.
