PLANS for a new medical practice in a Darlington village have been proposed to help it cope with a growing population.
The centre in Yarm Road, Middleton St George, will provide five consulting rooms and two treatment rooms, as well as space for health promotion.
The application was submitted to Darlington Borough Council this month.
NHS Tees Valley Clinical Commissioning Group, (CCG) said the development would help cater for future growth in the village.
There is a number of housing developments planned which will significantly increase the village's population.
A spokesperson from the CCG said: "The development of the GP premises at Middleton St George is a really exciting new chapter for staff and patients alike.
"The brand-new facility will provide the space required for patients currently registered with Middleton St George's Medical Practice and will also be able to accommodate any future growth based on local housing developments.
"The new premises will ensure that practice staff can continue to provide first-class care for their patients, in a state-of-the-art facility which features additional clinical rooms in a spacious, modern setting.
"The new building also provides additional space which will benefit patient groups and new roles within the primary care team to support the delivery of patient-facing services through a multi-disciplinary team approach.
"We believe the new building will be a great asset to everyone, especially at a time when the importance of fit for purpose primary healthcare premises has never been more important."

The vehicle entrance, car parking, footpaths, lighting, cycle and waste-storage were constructed with the intention of reusing all elements as part of a new, permanent building.
The building will sit parallel to the existing access road to the Middleton Hall Retirement Village.
The existing trees to the east and the south of the site provide solar shading and privacy for the clinical rooms.
Middleton St George Parish Council will be discussing the matter on November 8 and Darlington Borough Council will decide on the plans in due course.
