Mr McCartney told his family he was heading on a walking expedition and would be around four to five hours and then travelled to the Craven area in a black Volvo.

Police say a farmer called police to say he had discovered a body in the Coverhead area late yesterday morning (October 25).

Officers attended a short time later, along with mountain rescue and the body was discovered.

Police say there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a post mortem will be carried out to establish the cause of death.

Although formal identification has not been confirmed at this stage, officers believe the body to be that of David McCartney.

Mr McCartney’s family have been informed of this news and are currently being supported, the force has said.
