Courier style frauds had been reported in the force area by victims aged 85 and 89-years-old.
Courier fraud is when a crook posing as a law enforcement agent will call a victim and explain that their bank account has been compromised.
The victim will then be given the task to go to the bank in order to withdraw significant amounts of money for a courier to eventually pick up.
The man suspected of the Cleveland crimes was arrested by City of London officers in the early hours of September 23.
He has now been released under investigation and enquiries are ongoing.
