A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man died following a serious assault.
Mark Robinson was attacked at a property in Station Road, Redcar, on July 28 last year.
The 40-year-old suffered a head injury and required lengthy hospital treatment and then full-time care.
He died more than a year later on August 5, 2021.
In July 2020, two men, aged 33 and 45, were arrested on suspicion of assaulting Mr Robinson. They were both released under investigation.
The 33-year-old man remains under investigation. The 45-year-old male has been released with no further action.
Yesterday, a 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder. He was interviewed and has been released on police bail.
Detective Superintendent Helen Barker, leading the murder investigation, said: “Mark received a serious head injury following an assault and sadly passed away on August 5.
“Today I would appeal to anyone who has information which may assist detectives to speak to police.
“This includes anyone who has information about the assault in Station Road in 2020 or the events leading up to that day.
“Mark’s caring family have been devastated by his death and I am appealing on their behalf for anyone with information to speak to us.”
Mark’s family are being supported by specialist officers. They have released images of Mark today which were taken in February 2020 at a family event.
The family said: “Mark was a much-loved son, brother and uncle and treasured by our whole family.
“We cannot describe how difficult the past year has been and we are all devastated by Mark’s death.”
