NORTH Yorkshire police are currently dealing with a crash on a North Yorkshire A-road and have asked motorists to avoid the area.
They issued a statement via twitter this morning at 6.45am and have said that emergency services are working at the scene on the A19 at Thirkleby, near Thirsk.
A spokesperson for the force said: "We are currently dealing with a collision on the A19 at Thirkleby, near Thirsk. Please avoid the area while emergency services work at the scene."
In an update issued by police at 10.01am this morning, officers say the A19 is currently closed in both directions after a serious crash between a motorbike and car.
Police say they were called to the scene at 6.20am by the ambulance service after reports of a crash.
An investigation has been launched by police. Anyone who has witnessed the incident is asked to contact the Force Control Room on 101 and quote reference number NYP-27092021-0052.
*UPDATE* Police have reported that the 18 year-old man riding the bike died at the scene, and the passengers of the car were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
