A 32 year old cask of whisky has been sold at auction at Leyburn in North Yorkshire for £98,000.
The hogshead cask of Macallan 1989 Single Malt Scotch Whisky will give the new owner 120 bottles of the particularly sought after tipple. With buyers premium and VAT the cask which was sold at Tennants Auctioneers will cost £109,760, around £920 per bottle.
It was bought 25 years ago by the owner, a Yorkshire businessman, for £1,100 and been carefully stored since. The finest Scotch whisky's are in huge demand globally but supply is extremely limited.
Tennants’ Whisky Specialist William McNab said the Macallan is‘The colour of Chardonnay with a rich gold core.
