GREAT British Bake Off's first vegan contestant 19-year-old Freya Cox from North Yorkshire has been targeted by social media trolls because she is a keen horse rider.

It's understood Freya has deleted one of her Facebook pages as the latest series, which was pre-recorded, begins on Tuesday, September 21, Channel 4.

Freya, a psychology student from Scarborough is the youngest contestant on this year's show.

She said she was passionate about ethics, would be doing all-vegan bakes, and felt completely blessed to have the opportunity to be the first completely vegan baker on the Great British Bake Off.

But as a keen eventer, she has been criticised by people saying her ethics were all wrong if she considered horse riding kind.

One critic said: "Saying that you're passionate about ethics and then riding horses is completely contradicting and confusing."

Freya, who said she was inspired by her childhood memories of baking with her grandma, could not be contacted to comment.
