POP sensation Olly Murs wowed crowds in Darlington tonight as he performed his much-anticipated concert in the town.
The former X Factor runner-up, who revealed he had never been to Darlington ahead of the gig, thrilled his North East fans, who were in the right place at the right time, just weeks after overcoming surgery with his performance at the Darlington Arena.
Troublemaker Murs, whose hits also include Heart Skips a Beat, Dance With Me Tonight and Dear Darlin', was joined by Katie Kittermaster and Sophie Ellis-Bextor.
Speaking ahead of the show, Murs, who also performed in Scarborough on Friday, told the Echo: “I can’t wait to get back out on tour again, just to get back on the road and remember what I do for a living, it’s been a while.
“I have never been to Darlington before on any of my tours, so I am excited to see what it has to offer and what the people are like.
“I’ve done Newcastle, Sunderland, and Middlesbrough so I have been in the North East a lot but never been to Darlington.
“One thing I love about the region is the people, the people are always up for a gig which is great.
"The people in the North East are very humble and passionate."
The show marked the start of a big weekend for music lovers in Darlington and the arena, with music legend Tom Jones set to perform on the same stage on Sunday.
And for those without tickets, a free music festival is taking place in Darlington market square this weekend, with a host of local acts.
The Mish Mash Festival, which is organised by Tracks, will this year take place over two days for the first time.
Saturday’s headliners were Weekend Sun filling the market square with funky dance tunes.
On Sunday, the programme has been put on in conjunction with BIG Little Gigs, which has ran family music events in Darlington for five years. Headliners are K.O.G. and the Zongo Brigade.
It runs from 12pm-8pm on both days and also features dance workshops and musical crafts.
