MORE temporary transmitters have been switched on, allowing many more areas to receive signal as a result, according to a recent update by the BBC.

A temporary transmitter in Arncliffe Wood was switched on yesterday, allowing those in Darlington, Barnard Castle, Richmond, Leyburn, Catterick, Masham and Ripon to receive signal if people re-tune their TV.

According to the BBC, another four more relays were also brought back online late last night, brining services to Skinningrove , West Burton, Aysgarth , Redmire, Fylingthrope and Sleights.

The Romaldkirk relay has also been restored, giving back services to areas between Barnard Castle and Middleton-in-Teesdale, this restoration was reportedly missed last week.

A BBC spokesperson said: “A temporary transmitter at Arncliffe Wood has now been switched on. If your TV is struggling to pick up any signal, we encourage you to try an automatic retune, particularly if you live in and around Darlington, Barnard Castle, Richmond, Leyburn, Catterick, Masham and Ripon.

“You can learn how to do a retune by watching the useful videos on the Freeview help website. (Note: Arncliffe Wood is not included in the transmitter checker tool)

“If doing a retune does not restore any channels, unfortunately it is unlikely that you will be able to receive a signal until a temporary transmitter is available from Bilsdale.

“Work is progressing on this transmitter and we will have an update on the expected completion date shortly.

“Arqiva have been able to restore services to 4 more relays bringing back services in Skinningrove, West Burton, Aysgarth, Redmire, Fylingthorpe and Sleights.

“The Romaldkirk relay is also restored, giving back services to areas between Barnard Castle and Middleton-in-Teesdale. This restoration was missed from the notification last week.”
