A STOCKTON cinema has responded to a planning application submitted that would see leisure buildings demolished and replaced with office space.

An application was submitted to Stockton Council's planning portal to demolish the Showcase Cinema, Hollywood Bowl and surrounding restaurants to make way for an industrial development.

Now, the cinema has responded to the application to tear down the newly refurbished site.

Mark Barlow, UK General Manager for Showcase Cinemas, said: "In 2019 we invested in a multi-million pound refurbishment and upgrade of our Teesside location to a Showcase Cinema de Lux. This brought our leading big screen experience to the area, with fully customisable electric recliner seating as standard, at no extra cost.

"We are fully committed to our presence in the region, and have no plans to demolish our Teesside Leisure Park location."

The application lodged is for the construction of an urban logistics and industrial development totalling approximately 55,115 metres squared.
