ONE person has been arrested and two people taken to hospital following a crash last night.

Emergency services were called to reports of a three vehicle collision in the centre of Fishburn village, County Durham, at about 8.30pm on Monday, August 23.

The incident on Chaytor Terrace involved a grey BMW 3 series, red Peugeot 107 and a Nissan Qashqai.

Two of the vehicles were parked and unattended at the time of the collision.

Two women, who were the occupants of the BMW, were taken to hospital with injuries and the 33-year-old driver was arrested at the scene for a number of driving related offences.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses to come forward and assist them with their investigation.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: "Anyone who saw the BMW prior to the collision or with dashcam/CCTV of the incident is asked to contact 01325-742704 quoting incident number 469 of August 23."

The incident resulted in an eight hour power cut which affected properties in the area.

Northern Powergrid said it had to switch off power for safety reasons after cables were damaged during the incident.

A spokeswoman for Northern Powergrid, the company that powers everyday life for 3.9 million people across the North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire, confirmed that at around 8.45pm on August 23 a power cut affected around 100 homes in Fishburn, after a vehicle collided with the overhead power network which supplies the area.

She added: “Our team quickly attended site, made our network safe and completed repairs, which included replacing a wooden pole and power was restored to all homes by 4.45am on August 24.

"We’d like to thank our customers for their patience while our team worked hard to get the lights back on for the local community.”

The road was closed for some time and bus services through the village were affected.
