THERE are a dozen postcodes in the region where Covid cases were in the single digits in the past week - as some areas see a rise.

Twelve postcodes in the North East and North Yorkshire have seen below ten Covid cases in their communities, the lowest in the region.

It comes as figures published earlier this week showed almost 100 postcodes across the region had seen the number of new cases increase in the past week.

But most recent Public Health England data, published last night, shows how the 12 postcodes saw between four and nine cases.

The current average number of cases per postcode across the region stands at 22 - with case numbers reaching above 60 in parts.

But in the week leading to August 13, the figures showed that the Bellingham, Otterburn and Redesdale postcode area in Northumberland now has the lowest current cases.

Meanwhile, the Hall Farm ward in Sunderland and Loftus and Skinningrove ward in Redcar & Cleveland has the second and third-lowest.

Across the region, four out of 14 councils have continued to see a rise in the number of new cases.

That has since prompted renwed calls from local health leaders and CCGs urging those over 16 to come forward for the Covid vaccine.

This week, the NHS Sunderland CCG said: "Having both vaccines means that you are three times less likely to test positive for the virus.

"Make sure you're fully protected against Covid-19. Call 119 now to book your slot."
