CONSTRUCTION has begun and the latest addition to an airport's duty free offering.
Work to create Teesside International’s new duty-free shop began on Friday, August 13, as the airport completes the final part of its multimillion-pound terminal transformation.
The new store will be operated by World Duty Free which has signed a 12-year deal with the airport, offering perfume & cosmetics, confectionery, luxury goods and a range of other duty-free favourites such as liquor items to passengers.
Darlington-based Wharton Construction, which carried out work on the airport’s Goosepool Bar and shop, has been chosen to lead the work.
It will be supported by the town’s Powercare Electrical Services, which also was part of the redevelopment of the terminal, and Middlesbrough’s RTS Joinery, which will supply fixtures and fittings.
Construction on the 1,860sq ft space is expected to take six weeks.
When complete in September, it will join outlets such as boutique House of Zana and Rejoy and News Essentials which are already operating at the airport.
This comes as Ryanair add Corfu to their summer 2021 schedule.
