SEVEN businesses in North Yorkshire have been given a poor hygiene rating after inspections carried out by the Food Standards Agency.

The food standards industry regulate food businesses and rate them on a five-point scale, making sure that food is safe, food is what it says it is, consumers can make an informed choice of what to eat and consumers have access to an affordable diet.

A Scarborough Chinese takeaway is one of the businesses given a one-star rating and one business received a zero-star rating for hygiene.

Takeaways and food stores across the region are given a rating by the Food Standards Agency.

Many businesses in North Yorkshire receive a three or above food rating, demonstrating the high standard of food production in the region.

Businesses that are given a lower rating must make “urgent” or “major” improvements and are then re-rated in the near future.

The ratings on this list are based on the most recent ratings provided by The Food Standards Agency.

This is what the hygiene ratings mean:

0 – Urgent improvement necessary

1 – Major improvement necessary

2 – Some improvement necessary

3 – Hygiene standards generally satisfactory

4 – Hygiene standards good

5 – Hygiene standards very good

Here is a list of all the takeaways with a poor hygiene score based on the most recent ratings provided by the Food Standards Agency.
