The announcement came at 5.04pm last night and has been met with a shocked response on their social media.

The announcement said: “We are sorry to have to inform you that we have taken the decision to postpone the event until 2022.

“We are extremely saddened to have to do this, but we feel it is the only responsible course of action due to the ongoing rates of Covid 19 infection.

“We do not want to worsen the situation by bringing in thousands of festival attendees and staff together.

They added: “The good news is most of our acts have been confirmed for 5th to 7th August 2022 so while you may have to wait a little longer to see your favourites – we promise it will be worth it.”

According to the statement, those who purchased tickets can keep them and roll them over to next years event or they can get “a face-value refund.”

They added: "Our ticketing partner See Tickets will be in touch to let you know how to do this."

One Facebook user said: “Surprised by the decision and at such late notice. Other events seem to be opening up not closing.”

Another user said: "A bit late in the day, that decision could have been made weeks ago. Glad I hadn't booked tickets."

One comment said: "I would absolutely love to try and support as many festivals and the industry in general, but this is unacceptable.

"Citing 'on going rates of COVID 19 infection' as grounds for postponing the event does not make sense."

"If anything the daily infection rate has been in steady decline since we bought our tickets a couple of weeks ago.

"For this reason I’ve requested a refund.

"I’m only hoping that a full refund will be issued, and there won’t be any “we can’t refund the camping tickets”, being thrown at us.

"Moreover, it’s very disappointing to see the way that you have formatted the page to request a refund, as you have the ticket protection link, above the refund link. Our friends have fallen foul of this! Perhaps consider placing the refund section right at the top of the page to make it easier for everybody.

"I’m looking forward to receiving my full refund."
