SUPERMARKET customers are being encouraged to donate activity books and back to school items to help a food bank.
Staff from the Sainsbury's in Duke Street, Darlington, are running the appeal on behalf of the town's Kings Church food bank.
It is running throughout July and August and people can drop off items in a box in store.
Jo Robinson, trading assistant at the shop, said: "Kings church food bank do an excellent job supported people in need in Darlington and we are proud to support them."
Caroline Todd, the King's Church Foodbank manager, added: "Our aim along with Sainsburys local Duke street and all their lovely customers is to help local families in preparation for children returning to school in September.
"We hope this initiative will help to reduce some financial costs in the run up to this.
"We are extremely grateful for everyone’s amazing support, every little donation received will be a huge blessing. Thank you."
