North Yorkshire has some of the best coastal town accommodation to offer in the country, especially Scarborough - but which are the best rated?

With hotter weather drawing in and the easing of restrictions across the country it might be a good time to get away to the beautiful North-East coast for the weekend, but first you'll need somewhere to stay.

The following hotels have been selected according to their reviews on TripAdvisor and which ones received the most "excellent" five-star ratings out of the total reviews given.

With a mix of modern and historic hotels, the list contains hotels that should meet anyone’s tastes and needs with beautiful architecture and services abound – some offering some beautiful sea views.

Here are the top seven hotels in Scarborough as rated by TripAdvisor:

Park Manor Hotel, Northstead Manor Drive, Scarborough:

The Northern Echo:

Boasting a “cheerful and efficient” service, this hotel has 816 “excellent” five star reviews under its belt out of 1,371 reviews.

The hotel also sports a TripAdvisor 2021 Travellers Choice award and offers a range of amenities for guests.

These amenities include free parking, a pool, high speed Wi-Fi, fitness and spa and changing rooms, bar and lounge, a game room and offers a range of room types such as ocean view, family rooms and suites.

According to TripAdvisor’s about section the hotel says: “Whether you are looking for a happy holiday hotel, the best business base or a superb setting for that special celebration, we have the answer.”

One five star reviewer said; “Just spent two nights here, very nice hotel in a good position. Food is very good, we are vegetarian and there was plenty of choice for us. Swimming pool and spa facilities are very nice to relax in.”

Admiral Guest House, West Square, Scarborough:

This hotel, which is a ten minute walk from the beach, has been winners of the TripAdvisor Excellence Award for Hospitality around the world year after year since it has opened.

Located in a picturesque square overlooking gardens the hotel is a Victorian Grade II listed building directly opposite the rail station and major bus stops.

The hotel offers free Wi-Fi, en-suite bathroom, a digital TV and tea and coffee making facilities and breakfast is optional.

If you do decide to indulge in breakfast they offer a variety including full English, or lighter choices such as scrambled egg on toast, as well as a full buffet of healthy alternatives such as fresh fruit and yoghurt.

The hotel has received 199 “excellent” five star review out of a total of 258 reviews and offers amenities such as baggage storage, 24 hour front desk and an ironing service.

One five star reviewer said: “This is such a nice place to stay. It’s right in the middle of the city around everything. Everyone here is nice and helpful, 10 out of 10 I would recommend. My daughter and I enjoyed every minute we stayed.”

The Crescent Hotel, Belvoir Terrace, Scarboroug:

A small family run hotel, this away-stay prides itself on a “warm and friendly atmosphere in a wonderful location and fantastic food.”

The location offers a range of amenities such as free breakfast, high speed Wi-Fi, a banquet room and baggage storage.

Each room offers a coffee and tea maker, room service, flatscreen TV and an en-suite bathroom.

This hotel also received TripAdvisor’s 2021 Travellers Choice Award, and has received 525 “excellent” five-star reviews out of 723 reviews all together.

The hotel is also dog friendly if you wanted to bring your canine friend with you.

One person said: “Just spent three nights at this dog friendly hotel and had a great stay. All staff were extremely dog friendly and we were made most welcome.

The hotel is located across from a small park where we were able to exercise our dog and is in a great location for all amenities.

We dined twice in the main hotel and once in the public bar and all meals were excellent. Although no dogs allowed in the main restaurant we were more than pleased with the alternative dining area.
Would highly recommend this hotel and thank all staff for making our short break a pleasurable experience.”

Greno Guesthouse, Blenhiem Terrace Queens Parade, Scarborough:

Offering a location close to some of Scarborough’s most popular landmarks such as St Mary’s Church and Harbour view, this establishment is not one to pass if you’re looking for a seaside view.

The hotel provides a TV in every room and free Wi-Fi to all guests as well as a range of other amenities such as a sauna, bar and lounge, a beach and complimentary tea.

Receiving 219 “excellent” five-star reviews out of a total of 282 reviews, the hotel has also received TripAdvisor’s 2021 Travellers Choice Award.

One person said: “Lovely clean guest house, our room was perfect, we had an amazing view of the North Bay, not far from the Castle and the old town, it’s really a must to go and see. A good choice at breakfast and we really enjoyed our stay.”

Crown Spa Hotel, Esplanade, Scarborough:

Interestingly, the Crown Spa Hotel was Scarborough’s first ever hotel, built in 1845 containing many of the original architectural features.

Crown Spa Hotel has actually featured in many film and television productions and contains an “excellent” restaurant and spa treatment facilities.

The building offers a wide range of amenities such as a pool, fitness centre and gym, a bar and lounge and conference facilities.

Offering a range of room types, the hotel would be a prime location for anyone looking for an ocean view room, suite rooms and family rooms.

The accommodation has received 2,717 “excellent” five-star reviews out of 5,577 reviews all together.

One person said: “We visited last month for a couple of nights and could not resist returning, fantastic room, the service in the bar and restaurant was faultless and the food delicious, we will be back again soon The room was very clean, the bed comfortable and the view form the balcony perfect

Red Lea Hotel, Prince of Wales Terrace, Scarborough:

Situated on Scarborough’s South Cliff, this hotel offers some “beautiful” sea views to anyone wishing to stay.

The location also offers close proximity to the Cliff Lift, the Spa Centre and the beach and the town centre and historic castle are only a short walk away.

With a range of amenities to offer such as a pool, yoga classes, a coffee shop, evening entertainment and high speed Wi-Fi, this hotel has also snagged itself a TripAdvisor 2021 Travellers Choice Award.

The building has received 284 “excellent” five-star reviews out of a total of 566, and 184 “very good” four-star reviews, making it one you shouldn’t miss.

One person said: “We have just returned from yet another wonderful few days at Red Lea, we have been going there for over 30 years, which says it all really. Before coming away we booked our next visit as trips have been curtailed in the last 18 months due to lockdowns etc.

“Thank you to all the staff for another wonderful stay! You have dealt with all the pesky Covid restrictions with such grace and efficiency that the “special measures” in place are unobtrusive but one feels completely safe. Well done to everyone! Thank you and see you again soon!”

Hackness Grange Country House Hotel, Broxa Lane, Hackness:

Hackness Grange is a 19th Century Grade II Georgian Manor that is set in 17 acres of land in the North York Moors National Park.

The hotel offers en-suites to all rooms as well as views of the gardens, lake and Yorkshire countryside for those who are looking for a more remote and quieter setting.

Each room features a desk, fireplace, housekeeping, electric kettle, flatscreen TV and a walk in shower.

Receiving 445 “excellent” five star reviews out of 794 reviews all together, Hackness Grange has also secured itself a TripAdvisor 2021 Travellers Choice Award.

One reviewer said: “With all the madness going on in the world, Hackness Grange Hotel is the perfect place to get away from it all. From beginning to end our visit was lovely and relaxing. The view from our room, our bed, the food, staff and grounds were perfect. Looking forward to our next visit soon. Many Thanks”
