NEW photographs of some of the most dramatic rock formations in the country are going on display at special exhibitions by renowned photographer Joe Cornish.

Joe was commissioned by the National Trust to show the powerful landscape at Brimham Rocks, near Ripon, in a new light to mark 50 years since the Trust became the owners.

Exhibitions of the works are on display at Joe's Northallerton gallery and at a sister exhibition at Brimham Rocks entitled Drawn to Rock which will be on display till November 30.

Joe said many of the photographs were shot in harsh and difficult conditions, during snow storms and at night using portable lighting.

He also did work on some of the images to suggest the geological time which over 340 million years combined with the weather and during the last age 18,000 years ago eventually created Brimham's unique rock formations.

The unusual shapes were largely made by glacial winds blasting the rocks at ground level creating the current mushroom type shapes and strange formations.
