POLICE have seized a haul of diazepam and cannabis in an early morning drugs raid.

On Thursday response officers in Wallsend executed a warrant at an address on St Peter’s Road after receiving intelligence that drugs may be being sold at the property.

Officers scoured the address and recovered a haul of cannabis that was packaged and ready to be sold on the streets – along with 15 boxes of diazepam.

The occupant, a 22-year-old male, was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of drugs.

Sergeant James Younas said: "Every day our officers are out and about on patrol, speaking to residents, and acting on the information they give us.

“The public are our eyes and ears and we rely on them to share information with us about what is happening in the community – and yesterday’s activity goes to show that we will act swiftly and robustly on that information to keep our communities safe.

“Illicit drugs have no place on in our communities as they ruin the lives of some of society’s most vulnerable people while lining the pockets of shameless criminals.

“The reality is, drug dealers make for bad neighbours and the knock on effects of drugs being sold on your street are vast – more than just an increase in anti-social behaviour.

“Please always report anything suspicious.”

The male arrested has since been released under investigation with enquiries ongoing.

If you want to report any suspicious activity, please get in touch by the force's Tell Us Something page on its website or call 101.
