TRIBUTES have been paid to a man who died after he was hit by a car.
Eddie Bell was walking on Delves Lane, Consett, when he was struck by a silver Seat Leon at 11.35am on Saturday.
The 76-year-old was treated by paramedics but was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a statement, his family said: “It is with deepest regret that we announce the death of Eddie Bell, who was involved in a tragic road traffic collision yesterday.
“He was a much-loved husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be sadly missed.
“We wish to thank everyone for their support and ask to be left so that we can grieve in peace.”
A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.
He has been interviewed by officers and released under investigation while further enquiries are carried out.
Officers are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision. They are also appealing for people to come forward who may have dashcam footage of the incident, or of the vehicle prior to the collision.
