NEIGHBOURS have spoken of their shock after a man suffered gunshot wounds when he was blasted to the face and body by a moped-riding gunman.
Four men have been arrested in connection with the suspected attempted murder after the armed Bank Holiday Monday incident on Arrandale in Hemlington, Middlesbrough.
Streets surrounding the area were cordoned off while scenes of crime officers carried out their forensic investigations following the shooting at around 7pm.
One man, who didn't want to be named, said he went outside to see what had happened after hearing a load bang.
He said: "At first I couldn't really see what had happened but as I got closer to him it became pretty obvious. He was covered in blood and he was clearly quite badly hurt."
The alleged attack happened a few hundred metres away from Cleveland Police's Community Safety Hub and officers were quick to respond the emergency.
The witness added: "It was bit of a shock to the system to see so much police activity in the area and the ambulance soon took him away to hospital."
A man in his 30s is receiving hospital treatment for gunshot wounds.
Another neighbour said: "We have no idea what it was about but it was certainly a shock to come outside to see someone covered in blood after being shot.
"The police soon arrived and started to clear the area so they could search for evidence."
A 53-year-old man, 36-year-old man and two 30-year-old men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
The 36-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of a driving offence.
