NORTH-EAST promoters are set to open a 'super club' on Teesside this summer, despite uncertainty due to Covid restrictions.
Wynyard Events has unveiled the launch of a 'forward-thinking' club in Middlesbrough. Stereo, a mini 'super club', will replace the existing ATIK venue, based on Zetland Road.
Company directors Stephen Spensley, Kane Ayton and Gary Dobson hope their new venture will be a welcome boost for the region's club scene, which has been hit hard by the pandemic.
They expect it to have a long-lasting legacy in the region.
Set to launch this summer 2021 and designed by local business One Concept, the venue will have a large refurbishment, a bespoke LED lighting rig, a supercharged sound system, an outdoor terrace area and a secret cocktail bar.
Cross-genre live music nights, from electronic to dancehall, pop, Motown and drum and bass are also planned.
Mr Ayton said: “Stereo is for switched-on fun seekers and serious music lovers. We are attitude-free, fully inclusive and truly independent. After over 20 years of practice, this club and the events inside will be our finest work.
“We're committed to the regeneration of our town and we're so proud that we've managed to pull this off in what can only be described as seriously turbulent times for the industry.
“It's entirely purpose-built for the customer experience. Regardless of the person or the genre, they will instantly feel at home. With the help of the best designers and installers, we have created what we think is the best mini super-club in the area.
“As the event programming will span the full musical and cultural spectrum, the focus has been on getting the very best in bespoke sound and light.
"You will need to experience it first hand to understand, but we know it's going to blow people's minds and have a long-lasting legacy on Teesside. That's how confident and proud we are of it.”
Wynyard Events has been running a Teesside-wide alcohol delivery service through the pandemic as well as drive-in cinemas across the North.
As well as the plan was to transform ATIK, the development on Albert Road will see the company continue its work with Heritage England on the ground floor of the building.
Spensleys Emporium on the ground floor will be rebranded, with the new name to be announced over summer.
The building is currently going under a major redevelopment from SPACE Architects of Newcastle and Heritage England.
