NORTHERN Echo reader John Hill had been digging around in his photographic archives and came across some brilliant pictures of Darlington from the past.
The selection of photographs is from North Road, in Darlington, showing the North Road Locomotion Works, which was demolished, we think, in June 1979.
The Railway Institute remains on the left of the pictures and the clock was in a very sorry state before it was restored.
Mr Hill said his only regret is that he didn’t take a photo through the archway.

The demolition well underway. The locomotive works served the railways for 103 years, but closed due to the demise of steam on April 1, 1966
