HOLIDAYMAKERS across the region will have one more destination to consider as an airline has just announced the return of a route from Newcastle Airport.
Dubbed Spain's "leading" low cost operator, Vueling will operate twice-weekly flights from the region to Barcelona-El Prat Airport.
The flights, which will take-off on Wednesdays and Sundays, will operate between July and October this year.
It comes as easyJet last year announced it would pull all international flights from the airport, leaving the airline operating just two domestic routes from Newcastle.
Announcing the new flights today, Newcastle Airport said they were confident in the popularity of the new route.

Leon McQuaid, Head of Aviation Development at Newcastle Airport said it expected the route to prove popular.
He said: “We know our passengers wanted us to reinstate a direct service to Barcelona so we are delighted to have been able to secure the return of this route with Vueling, especially during these extremely challenging times.
“We are very much looking forward to welcoming leisure passengers back to the airport for their well-deserved holidays.
"We are confident that as international travel resumes Barcelona will once again be a popular choice for the North-East travelling public, not only with passengers looking for a city break destination but also with those looking for a beach holiday or as a gateway to explore the rest of Spain.”
Tickets for the new route have gone on sale today with fares starting from £28 one way for flights between July and October.
