A STOCKTON pub has banned customers from wearing sportswear, including trainers according to a post on their Facebook post.

The Red Lion Inn, in Norton, reminded customers via Facebook that they "still don’t allow any sports-wear in the pub and in the beer garden e.g. sports caps , sports shorts , tracksuit bottoms and tops, gilet jackets, bomber jackets, sports trainers e.g. air max etc.

And continued to say: "this does not mean all trainers."

The post has received over 900 comments on their post with mixed opinions on the announcement.

One Facebook user said: "Seems a bit overboard, hardly the place to be wearing your Sunday best! Next up Aldi will require a dress code.”

Another commented: "Wait, so you are saying that, after not being able to operate for the best part of a year. When pubs and businesses are struggling just to stay afloat. You are telling people that their custom and money is not good enough unless they dress in a certain way?"

"I'm no psychic but I can see an 'Under new management' sign in your future."

Other users commented the following: "Dress code in this day and age…So if someone working in JD fancies a pint after work then it's a no."

"It’s like going back to the 80s."

"How ridiculous. Could understand if there was maybe a time restriction, once it ticks over into evening ‘smart casual’ if that’s the feel they’re going for but all day, don’t understand what the issue is with bomber jackets and gilets, pathetic."
