A CAMPAIGN has started to save a town’s skate park, which has attracted some of the sports most famous names.
Ryedale skatepark, in Norton, has been used by youngsters since it opened in 2001, and for the last 20 years it has been a hub of activity.
The main feature is the unique halfpipe, this halfpipe is one of its kind originally a display ramp at Alton Towers at one time was the only outdoor one in the UK that was free to use.
Now, the local council are trying to dismantle and take away a prized piece as it has fallen into disrepair over the years.
Local radio presenter Ryan Swain has started a campaign to save the halfpipe from being dismantled.
He has started a GoFundMe to secure the funds to repair the skatepark and save it from being demolished.
Mr Swain said: "This half pipe isn't just a ramp it's a piece of history, and was once a display ramp for the amazing Team Extreme and we have it in our town."
He has got the backing of the skateboard industries biggest names such as Tony Hawk.
In a video message Mr Hawk said: “I fully back Ryan with his efforts and I believe we need more public skateparks and we need to fix them up, to get people back into skateboarding."
