A MUM has told how she transferred her skills from working in the fashion industry to managing the operations of a charity delivering lifeline food supplies to North-East families.

Dani Fisher started her career as a brand ambassador for Vivienne Westwood at Harrods, in Knightsbridge.

Now, she is the North-East Regional Manager for The Bread and Butter Thing, directing deliveries of surplus food from a warehouse on Chilton Industrial Estate, in County Durham.

“It’s certainly quite a change but I absolutely love it,” said Dani, who grew up in the Durham village of Sacriston.

The charity, first launched in Manchester, has expanded rapidly since it moved into the North-East at the start of the pandemic last March, opening a community hub at Corporation Road Primary School, in Darlington.

Since then, a network of community hubs has opened in the region, with distribution being managed by Dani and her small team from the warehouse at Chilton.

As a result of the expansion, the charity is appealing for more volunteers. To help, email hello@breadandbutterthing.org, or fill in a form at www.breadandbutterthing.org/contact
