TEESSIDE children’s author, Hannah Bell, is urging parents weary with lockdown home schooling, to reach out for help and support in Children’s Mental Health week.
Hannah has recently published a book ‘The Brainy Bunch’ which she said could be a real game changer.
The Brainy Bunch is a unique concept which is all about helping children to understand their own feelings and emotions by educating them in how their brain works. It offers practical advice as well as tools and techniques to help children handle whatever life throws at them, whether that’s feeling isolated and missing their friends or struggling with anxiety and uncertainty around Covid.
Hannah, 50, said: “The last year has been such a challenge for little ones and parents as they grapple with the impact of Covid on their mental health, education and wellbeing and I think it’s important during Children’s Mental Health week to shine a light on the tools we all have readily available to us to better cope and achieve our goals even in tough times.
“The Brainy Bunch tells us how we can do just that and is a bit of a handbook for how our brains work, why we sometimes feel the way we do and most importantly, how we can take control of our emotions to make sure we can live our best lives even at difficult times like this.
“I’ve been overwhelmed by the positive feedback I’ve received from parents and teachers about the difference The Brainy Bunch has made to the way children are able to cope and respond to things life throws at them.
“The mental health and wellbeing of our children has never been more important and with lockdown and home-schooling set to continue in the weeks ahead, The Brainy Bunch and the concepts, tools and techniques it explores is an essential, much valued go to resource which I know many families are turning to right now. It could be a real-life saver for weary and exhausted parents trying to support their children through this.”
Hannah began her career in education and went on to be a police officer where she developed a curiosity for the way the brain works and a love of learning. The Brainy Bunch is Hannah’s first book which she wrote several years ago. Lockdown gave Hannah both the opportunity and inspiration to publish her book in a bid to help others when they needed it most.
Hannah has delivered The Brainy Bunch concept into schools in partnership with Go Well who have supported hundreds of children with their emotional well-being.
Children’s Mental Health week is taking place this week and is themed around expressing yourself.
