THE revelation that the North-East and Yorkshire will see its Covid vaccine supply significantly reduced has proved controversial with residents across the region.

Hundreds have left comments on The Northern Echo's social media channels responding to the confirmation that supply will be scaled-back to allow other regions to catch up.

From those slamming the Government's decision, to others saying it is vital to help the rest of the UK, here's what you had to say when asked should the supply be reduced...

'Let our NHS teams give the vaccine'

Eleanor West said: "Definitely not! If they halve the amount the North-East are getting if any more people get Covid we will be put into lockdown for a lot longer.

"The North-East have been in some form of lockdown or another since March. Our NHS team in North-East are doing a brilliant job give them the vaccine  and let them do the vaccines."

'When has the region been put before any others'

Lynne Clark said: "No, I would of thought they’d of shared the vaccine’s out equally in the first instance.

"When has the North-East ever been put before any other Region - our NHS staff are doing a cracking job giving the vaccines and we as a region are obviously on board with the vaccine so are turning up to have it."

'We need to keep the vaccinations going'

Jane Jackson said: "Absolutely not, it makes a change for us to be ahead of the south, it’s usually them that are ahead of us. We need to keep the vaccinations going and get everyone protected as soon as possible."

'Why should we have ours slowed down'

Yvonne Mary Reynoldson said: "No why should we have ours slowed down.

"It makes a change for us to be ahead of the southerners. Who brought the second virus up here in the first place? when there was a mass exodus out of London."

'Punished for being efficient'

Christine Watson said: "Seems like we are being punished for being efficient.
Surely if the north gets done that will ease vaccine supplies for the south."

But not everyone shared the same views...

Lockdown concerns

Stephen J Scales said: "Yes because until the case rate and death rate falls we will be in a perpetual nationwide lockdown.

"There's no point vaccinating all of County Durham if people are still dropping like flies in Cornwall, Rutland or Warwickshire."

'It's not about North and South - it's about people's lives'

Deborah Carpenter said: "We are all in the same boat so let's try and remember that, as a country we need to stick together it's not about North and South this about people's lives so let's all get ours back get vaccinated wherever you are."

'It's the correct thing to do'

Peter Stemmer said: "Reverse the roles and we would be demanding we get some more. Of course it is the correct thing to do."
