DOZENS of schools open to the children of key workers have been forced to shut their doors following heavy snowfall earlier today.

Durham County Council has issued a full list of school closures which have been caused due to adverse weather conditions.

Annfield Plain Infant School 

The school will close on Thursday, 14 January 2021 (All day) and re-open on Friday, 15 January 2021 (Morning). Reason for closure: Due to the heavy snowfall overnight and the daily forecast, school will be closed to those who would have been accessing it. Online working will be available for all as normal. Apologies for any inconvenience. 

Annfield Plain Junior School

The school will close on Thursday, 14 January 2021 (All day) and re-open on Friday, 15 January 2021 (Morning). Reason for closure: snowfall and weather forecast predicting further snow. School is closed for keyworker groups and online learning will continue.

Beechdale Nursery School 

The school will close on Thursday, 14 January 2021 (All day) and re-open on Friday, 15 January 2021 (Morning). Reason for closure: Due to heavy snow the school site is inaccessible and the surrounding roads are impassible

Benfieldside Primary School 

The school will close on Thursday, 14 January 2021 (All day) and re-open on Friday, 15 January 2021 (Morning). Reason for closure: Fully closed to all pupils today due to treacherous site and road conditions caused by heavy snow.

Bishop Ian Ramsey CofE Primary School

The school will close on Thursday, 14 January 2021 (All day) and re-open on Friday, 15 January 2021 (Morning). Reason for closure: Due to the heavy snowfall overnight and the daily forecast, school will be closed to those who would have been accessing it. Online working will be available for all as normal. Bowes Hutchinson's CofE (Aided) School 

The school will close on Thursday, 14 January 2021 (All day) and re-open on Friday, 15 January 2021 (Morning). Reason for closure: Due to heavy snow and ice, the school will remain closed today. There will be online learning provided for all children.

Burnopfield Primary School

The school will close on Thursday, 14 January 2021 (All day) and re-open on Friday, 15 January 2021 (Morning). Reason for closure: Heavy Snowfall and ongoing forecast of snow.

Burnside Primary School 

The school will close on Thursday, 14 January 2021 (All day) and re-open on Friday, 15 January 2021 (Morning). Reason for closure: Due to the heavy snowfall overnight and the forecast for today, school will be closed to those who would have been accessing it. The school site and roads are treacherous. Online work will be available for all as usual.

Byers Green Primary School 

The school will close on Thursday, 14 January 2021 (All day) and re-open on Friday, 15 January 2021 (Morning). Reason for closure: School will be closed today due to poor road conditions and ongoing forecast of heavy snow.

Consett Infant School

The school will close on Thursday, 14 January 2021 (All day) and re-open on Friday, 15 January 2021 (Morning). Reason for closure: Due to heavy snow the school site is inaccessible and the surrounding roads are impassible

Consett Junior School 

The school will close on Thursday, 14 January 2021 (All day) and re-open on Friday, 15 January 2021 (Morning). Reason for closure: Closed for all pupils today because of heavy overnight snow. Learning will be moved online. We hope to reopen tomorrow.

Cotherstone Primary School 

The school will close on Thursday, 14 January 2021 (All day) and re-open on Friday, 15 January 2021 (Morning). Reason for closure: Due to heavy snow and ice, the school will remain closed today. There will be online learning provided for all children.

Delves Lane Primary School 

The school will close on Thursday, 14 January 2021 (All day) and re-open on Friday, 15 January 2021 (Morning). Reason for closure: Due to snow and poor road conditions we are unable to run within our Covid 19 risk assessment. All children can access lessons on Tapestry & Google Classroom.

Durham Gilesgate Primary School 

The school will close on Thursday, 14 January 2021 (All day) and re-open on Friday, 15 January 2021 (Morning). Reason for closure: Due to overnight and ongoing snow, particularly over higher ground. This is making travel very difficult for staff. Under the current circumstances we cannot mix bubbles or double up classes if staff are absent or delayed. Unfortunately the school will have to be closed today.

Evenwood CofE Primary School

The roads are in poor condition. School will be closed to those who would have been accessing it. Online working will be available for all.

St Stephen's Church of England Primary School Willington

The school will close on Thursday, 14 January 2021 (All day) and re-open on Friday, 15 January 2021 (Morning). Reason for closure: heavy snow forecast for all day and non local staff are unable to get to school. Our Covid risk assessment does not allow mixing of bubbles or moving staff into different classes.
