POLICE searching for a missing man have reported the discovery of a body last night.
The Cleveland force announced yesterday that a search was underway for missing 63-year-old Peter Phelps, from Skelton.
Members of the public were asked not to organise their own search parties due to poor weather conditions.
Officers from Cleveland Police, plus volunteers from Cleveland Mountain Rescue, were searching the wooded area between Skelton and Saltburn, and the surrounding areas, in a bid to find Mr Phelps.
The force announced today that, “sadly”, the body of a man was found last night.
A statement added: “Whilst no formal identification has taken place, as yet, officers are in contact with Peter’s family and have informed them that a body has been located.
“Our thoughts remain with Peter’s family and friends at this extremely difficult time.”
