MOST areas in the North-East and North Yorkshire have seen a rise in Covid cases in the past week, revealed ahead of the tier review tomorrow.
Eleven out of 14 council areas across the region have seen a rise in coronavirus cases compared to the week before, Government data reveals.
The seven–day rolling rates of new cases, by specimen date, ends on December 23, meaning it does not reflect a likely rise from people mixing with loved ones over the festive period.
The introduction of Christmas bubbles gave up to three households the go-ahead to meet on Christmas Day, reduced from five days after cases began to rise, a new strain of Covid was identified and devolved nations announced post-Christmas lockdowns.
Gateshead and Hambleton, in North Yorkshire, have seen cases soar, with increases of 82.5 per cent and 207.0 per cent, respectively.
It comes as the Government's second review of the tier system is expected tomorrow, December 30, meaning North Yorkshire could be moved up from Tier 2 to Tier 3.
