RYANAIR will operate flights between Teesside Airport and two holiday destinations for several holiday seasons over a seven-year period, it has been revealed.

The Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen has confirmed the return of Ryanair to Teesside Airport is not just a "one-off" for the 2021 holiday period.

The budget airline was yesterday announced as the latest to return to the airport after a break of more than ten years.

Ryanair confirmed that it would be launching flights to Alicante in Spain, and Palma in Majorca, with the first flight taking off on June 1.

It said it would be operating flights to both destinations, twice per week, until Friday, October 30 when the summer season comes to an end.

After the announcement was made, Mr Houchen last night confirmed the airport had signed a seven-year-deal, showing Ryanair's "commitment" to the region.

Mr Houchen said: “This isn’t just a one-off summer of flights for next year Ryanair have signed a seven-year-deal that shows they are committed to Teesside in the long run and they can see the potential our fantastic airport has."

Ryanair’s Director of Commercial Jason McGuinness said: “We are delighted to be back in Teesside with two new routes to Alicante and Mallorca, commencing on 1st June 2021.

"Both routes will operate twice weekly as part of our Teesside Summer 2021 schedule. Customers in Teesside can now book flights to Alicante and Mallorca and enjoy a well-deserved Summer break as far out as October 2021."
