SUPERMARKET chain Morrisons has confirmed the opening date for its new Dalton Park store.
Shoppers have been waiting years for the firm to move to the retail park, after previous plans were shelved, leaving its expected home empty.
But according to company bosses, trading is expected to begin from Thursday, November 26.
This is in line with an announcement made earlier this year (2020) to see the site up and running ‘before Christmas’.
Details of festive opening hours or other facilities are yet to be announced, but are expected later this month (November).
Morrisons’s new site was built as part of a multi-million pound expansion of Dalton Park which also saw a cinema and restaurants built, but has sat vacant since 2016.
About 150 jobs are believed to have been created by decision to finally open the outlet.
As well as food, shoppers will also be able to top up their fuel tanks at a Morrisons petrol station and kiosk near the entrance to Dalton Park.
Planning permission for the petrol station was originally granted in 2014, only opened in June this year (2020).
In the wake of this, a spokesman for the chain said: “Following the successful launch of our petrol station, we now plan to open the Morrisons Dalton Park store by the end of this year.
“Specialist teams are working to transform the unit into a new-look Morrisons store and recruitment for around 150 new colleagues will start shortly.
“We would like to thank the community for their continued patience and look forward to welcoming them to the store.”
