A BOOKING system is being launched at a tip to reduce queues while essential sewage works is being carried out.
The work at Dunsdale Recycling Centre will see a sewage pipe being installed to connect to tanks on the old landfill site adjacent to the recycling centre.
It starts today and is scheduled to take four weeks.
The recycling centre will remain open during lockdown but a temporary booking system is being introduced to reduce queues as the entrance road will have reduced space.
No vehicles will be allowed to queue on the main road for safety reasons.
From Friday, residents must book a slot at a time of their choice when visiting the recycling centre and must still prove their address when arriving.
From November 11, no car will be admitted to the site without an appointment.
Appointments are available from 8am to 5pm, seven days a week, on a first-come first-served basis.
Residents who do not have access to a computer or internet can book an appointment by calling 01642 774 774.
Permit type vehicles including vans, commercial vehicles or any vehicles with trailers are limited to the first 2 hours of the day only, and still need a permit to access the site. Details on permits can be found on the Council’s website at www.redcar-cleveland.gov.uk.
Only person is allowed per car (excluding Blue Badge holders, who can be accompanied by a family member) and social distancing of at least two metres will be enforced.
Site employees will not be able to assist with unloading.
Councillor Barry Hunt, cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods and Environment at Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, said: “The works to the sewage system may cause some delays on the road, so we’re asking for people’s patience and to avoid the road if they possibly can.
“The booking system can be found on the council’s website, but we appreciate not everyone has access to computers, so people can still book appointments by calling the council’s main switchboard.
“We must stress that people’s safety is our priority, meaning everyone must remain socially distant at the site.”
