A LARGE fire has broken out in a derelict building in Darlington.
Emergency services received a report of a blaze, just off Snipe Lane, in the early hours of this morning.
County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service initially sent three appliances, a water bowser and aerial ladder platform at the scene.
A spokesperson said the fire brigade was called to the incident at 4.10am and that the building involved is a derelict house.
Group manager Colin Davis said that, shortly after 8am, one of the fire engines left the scene but firefighters are expected to remain at the scene for some time.
He added: "We took the call at 4.10am to a large fire in a derelict house, and a small secondary rubbish fire outside the property as well.
"We've two jets in use and the water bowser is there because the water supply in the area isn't great for us.
"On arrival we had a bit of trouble getting in as there was a large mound of earth, presumably to stop people getting in.
"We did request a tractor from Darlington Borough Council to help with access but there wasn't anyone available at that time so we made do and went over it."
