THE supermarket chain Aldi is hoping to build almost 30 new stores in locations across the North-East and North Yorkshire.

Aldi, which already has dozens of stores in the region, has listed the locations it wants to target next - with some areas set to get more than one.

Brand new sites in Barnard Castle, Northallerton and Houghton-le-Spring are among the list of areas that could get the discount supermarket.

The chain regularly updates its list of 'Required Towns' as it looks for the areas it believes will offer high returns in customer numbers.

Aldi has described its growth plans as an "ambitious property investment and development programme", with everyone asked to help it find new commercial sites.
