A DARLINGTON hotel has reportedly gone into administration, sparking some anger and concern on social media.
A statement published on the facebook page of The George Hotel in Piercebrige says: "It is with regret that I must confirm the hotel is now in administration and currently no-one is available to respond to phone calls, emails, or facebook messages."

The statement, which is addressed to the hotel's 'valued patrons', goes on to say: "I am sure that someone from the administration team will be in touch as soon as possible with regards to accommodation, weddings and events that have been booked, but unfortunately we do not have access to any details currently."
The George, which is located near the River Tees in the Darlington village of Piercebridge, can trace its roots back to the 1500s.

As well as a pub and restaurant, it also operated as a wedding venue with 33 bedrooms and three function rooms with capacity for up to 180 evening guests.
Since publishing the statement this evening, hundreds of people have commented online.
Some have criticised the hotel for sharing the news via social media and others have questioned whether they will receive refunds for wedding deposits that have been paid.
Others have expressed their sadness at the news, describing The George Hotel as a 'special place' that has hosted 'perfect weddings' in the past.
