A NURSE has filmed an emotional plea urging people to stop panic buying and clearing supermarket shelves after she was left empty handed after a 48-hour shift.

Outside a major supermarket, a critical care nurse from York filmed her emotional plea where she described the state of her local supermarket left bare of essential goods.

In the video Dawn Bilbrough said: "So I've just come out of the supermarket, there's no fruit and veg, I had a little cry in there.

"I'm a critical care nurse and have just finished 48 hours of work and wanted to get some stuff in for the next 48 hours but there's no fruit, there's no vegetables. I just don't know how I'm supposed to stay healthy.

"People are just stripping the shelves for basic foods - people just need to stop it because people like me who are going to be looking after you when you're at your lowest.

"Just stop it please."

Supermarkets across the region have one-by-one started to limit the first few hours of trade to those vulnerable, elderly and working for the NHS

Tesco and M&S are among the big names that have rolled out the special opening hours in order to avoid those unable to queue in the early morning missing out on essential goods.
