A MAN has died in a house fire in Easington in the early hours of Wednesday.
A spokesperson for the County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service said: "Firefighters said were called to a house on Anthony Street to reports of a fire at approximately 12:30am.
"Two fire engines from Peterlee and one from Wheatley Hill attended and breathing apparatus crews went into the house and rescued the man who was then treated by our colleagues from North East Ambulance Service.
"Sadly, the man died at the scene."
No one else was injured or rescued from the blaze.
Incident Commander, Lee Brown commented: “Our thoughts and condolences are with the man’s family and friends at this time. "Our fire investigation team is now working closely with our police colleagues to investigate the cause of the fire.”
