A SCHOOL in County Durham is shut today so it can be cleaned after reports of a suspected coronavirus case.

St Cuthbert’s RCVA Primary School, in Seaham, confirmed at the weekend that it had been notified of a suspected Covid-19 case in school so would be closed for a day to undergo a ‘through deep clean’.

The child first child to have displayed symptoms of the virus has been off school since last Wednesday and a second family is also understood to have self-isolated The school should reopen to staff and pupils tomorrow, Tuesday, March 17.

Headteacher Nicola Noble said: “We take the health and safety and wellbeing of our pupils and staff very seriously, and as such, we want to reassure you we are following the guidance from Public Health England and The Department for Education.”

She thanked families for their cooperation and understanding.
