PLANS have been submitted to transform a former nursing home in a picturesque fishing village into a music recording studio.
The North York Moors National Park Authority has been asked to consider granting the conversion of a grade II listed property built in 1764 for seafarer Isaac Storm to cater for musicians playing styles ranging from electronic to classical music, with a 200sq m live space for a jazz band, a classical ensemble or a choral group.
Documents lodged with the authority state as the main building is half a storey above ground level with stepped access and it is unsuitable and too small for a recording and rehearsal studio intended to be used by a wide range of local musicians, societies and school groups.
The application states the proposal has been substantially reduced in scale from the scheme presented to planning and heritage officers last year and the upper floors will feature writing and relaxing spaces and residential accommodation so artists “can work and sleep to their own timetable”.
